What is it going to take for this world to open its eyes and realize that the way we are doing things is getting us nowhere? Is the world content with all of this violence, oppression and hatred for one another that people as a species are satisfied with the horrible atrocities that go on around the world on a daily basis? Are our differences so extreme and are we so selfish and desensitized that we would go to the most extreme measures to hurt one another and to suppress one another and to cause so much pain that instead of living in a world of peace and caring for one another, we choose to live in a world of fear and hatred and we will do anything to perpetuate this until there is no one left. What will we do then when we have killed everyone that is opposed to our way of life? What then? Will the ones that win be satisfied that they have destroyed an entire species for the sake of being right? It is so important to be right and to be the one on top that we will do anything to get there and anything to suppress anyone that doesn’t think and feel the same way.
Let us talk about why this is and see if we can come to some conclusions. Maybe some of them do it out of fear of losing control. Maybe some do it out of losing face. Maybe some do it because that is just the way that it has always been done. Are we so blinded by our own agendas that we are willing to kill and suppress anyone that does not think the way that we do? Why is it that people can be so brainwashed that they believe whatever someone tells them because the alternative is to die questioning what we know is right? Why is it that someone thinks that they have the right to suppress and cause a people to live in fear only because they can and only because they believe that they are the only ones worthy of freedom and that the ill treatment of their people is a small price to pay for their great life? That it is the people that should be privileged to be in a position to be able to serve the ones that will take care of them and lead them to the life that they will have for serving the one true leader. It sounds all too familiar and all too close to home when we see all of the countries that are so corrupt but we sit by and do nothing because we are so afraid that we might offend someone or make someone angry and cause a problem over there or maybe over there. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is trouble over there and there so we have nothing to lose but more innocent lives.
Let’s look at some examples shall we. Let’s talk about North Korea and its history of abuse and hatred and corruption, and most importantly its inhumane treatment of its people. What should we do as a species to help end the violence and the ill treatment of the people and the prisoners of war that they have been holding there for decades. Should someone live in fear for their lives and live in poverty because their leader is so ignorant that he has cut his country off from the rest of the world? Why should the people of North Korea have to suffer because of its ignorant leader? What about the people that live there that are actually getting smaller because they are so malnourished that they are shrinking? What about the people that left what is now North Korea and went to the south to avoid this kind of life? They are now separated from their families and loved ones forever. Who has a right to do that to anyone and to cause that kind of pain to a country of people that have done nothing wrong? What must be done about this? What about the people in the prison camps that have been there most of their lives because they fought in wars and were captured? How long should they have to suffer and be tortured? Must we in an age of technology and communication and the ability to come together from all parts of the globe be so cut off and isolated so as to do what one person thinks is good for the world. If this ruler thinks that their way of life is the right one and truly believes this, what is there to hide? Why not be a shining example of what the world should be? These people have only been there for decades and they will die there because of one cruel person that is no more than a bully on the playground and only doing what his father told him to do. Now that the world does not want to help them because they are becoming even more of the threat they want to force physical violence on the south. Like I said, you are just a bully on the playground. Well I am sorry, but there is no way that any country in their right mind, other than your misguided Chinese neighbors, would continue to help you when you torture and force your people to live in fear.
Let’s talk about the Chinese government, because they are just as barbaric and pathetic as North Korea. Let’s talk about how the Chinese government is doing everything they can to eradicate the Tibetans and their way of life. They are a group of peaceful and isolated people that only want to live their lives away from the confines of a communist government. A government that is so threatened by a group of monks that they are willing to cut off their communication to the outside world and to also kill without provocation. Is this what happens when a group of people simply want to be left alone to live their lives in peace? Is this what happens when there is a group of people that decide that there is a better way to live life and then goes about doing it without force or fear or condemnation and with everyone having a choice? What is the matter with wanting to live a life of peace and tranquility without fear of one another or without the dark cloud of control hanging over your head? I ask the Chinese government, what is so threatening about that? Are you afraid that this way of life is contagious and that you will be faced with a nation of people that no longer want to live under the rule of a government that they now know does not have their best interests at heart? How many more people have to die before you realize that there is another way to live a life and another way to take your neighbors hand in friendship and say I am here to help you and I know that you are here for me as well?
Let’s now talk about the poor people in Afghanistan and what is happening to them. There is such corruption and fear there that the people are being forced to do things that are so unimaginable that most people would say if put in those same situations that they would rather die. Well these people have no choice and they are being victimized and tortured and mistreated every day because of a few corrupt and greedy individuals that are so hell bent on controlling others for their own profit that they have forgotten what it is like to be human. How can someone of right mind say that you have to do something that is illegal and if you do not do it well then we are going to take your daughters and use them as mules and sex slaves and we are going to do it not because it is right, but just because we can. Then when other countries get involved the problem simply gets worse. What is the solution to this problem? What is it going to take for the world to say that there is a better way? What is the solution? The powers that be seem to be all out of solutions and the ones that they have initiated have not quite worked out the way that they planned.
Let’s talk about the “Kill the Gays” bill in Uganda. How can a country sit there and say that because you are different we have a right to kill you and cleanse our nation of the filth and disgust that is everything that you are? Who made them judge and jury and who has the right to offer forth such judgment? Who has a right, even when it is the majority, however misguided, thinks that this is the way that it must be? Of course we can debate the religious connotations of this argument and also the moral implications of such a thing, but what I want to do is ask why does a country of people think that they have a right to inflict this penalty on a group of people for simply being different? Why would anyone on this earth think for a second that someone would choose to be a certain way, when that way would get one killed? That would make someone insane wouldn’t it? If that is what you believe then why would you pass a bill that would put to death insane people? Isn’t that what hospitals are for and what treatment centers are for? If the government truly thinks that these people would be “crazy” enough to choose this path in life knowing what the consequences are, would they not be locked up with other people with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia? Or for that matter why not just line them all up together in the town square and mow them down like rabid dogs. I mean, let’s face it, crazy is crazy and why should they be treated any differently?
I know that there are a lot more things out there in the world that are wrong and that there are people who live in horrible conditions and are not allowed to even read a book based on their gender, but this is only an opening of a dialogue where I want to share what I think about just a few things that have been on my mind recently. As I said in the beginning of this blog entry, what is it going to take for this world to stand up and say enough bloodshed, corruption, suppression and violence and realize that we are all in this together and no one gets out alive? This world is a place where we could do such great things and express and perpetuate such great kindnesses, but all we seem to be worried about is how can I make more money than the next person or how high on the charts did my record go, or how big of a house can I get, or how many lives can I destroy for my own selfish ambitions and insecurities? Does anyone need a Mercedes Benz? Does anyone need to have millions in the bank? Does anyone have to subjugate an entire race of people for their own selfish needs? Do any of these things mean that much that we could not live if we didn’t have these things or if we were under the assumption that no one is any better than anyone else and we are different for a reason? When you look at the world from space you do not see borders or different colors of people. You do not see gay or straight or people with special needs. What you see is one world and one world alone. We are alone out here in this great expanse called space and what we choose to do with this world is going to determine whether we destroy ourselves or whether we decide to live as we should, and that is as one world. What are you going to do?????
