What kind of world do we live in where everything is disposable? What is wrong with people and the world where everything that we come in contact with can be equated with garbage? What is wrong with the world when this sort of thing goes so unnoticed all we have to do when we make a bad choice is throw the mistakes and the faulty possession away and start over with a fresh do over. I am talking about everything from our backpacks to our parents and animals. Yes, everything in this world has gotten so disposable that if we no longer want to deal with it or put up with it we only have to send it off someplace to get it out of our lives.
I know this sounds harsh but look at the world and what goes on and the evidence is there all around us. It is not bad enough that we as a species is doing it, but that the world is telling us that we should do it. Through advertising and mass marketing we are told that the world can only get better if you get the new phone or send your elderly parents to a nice home away from home so someone else can take care of them so you can get back to your life or get rid of the old pet and get a new one.
Everyone talks all of the time about how they have to have the newest things and have more me time and more and more and more and more, but no one wants to accept responsibility for these choices that they are making that are affecting so much more than themselves. It is like we have a completely unaccountable society. The penalties and the consequences are practically nonexistent when it comes to the act itself.
This is very evident when you look at the worlds landfills, the animal shelters and of course the boarding schools and homes for the elderly. When something does not work there is always something that you can do to remove it from your life so you can get back to making the universe revolve around you.
What is wrong with this picture? We look at people who go through their entire lives without even being able to commit to a phone let alone a pet or a person and they are the ones with numerous ones of each. Where is this coming from, and what must this person be going through to think that this situation is OK?
The world is full of examples and how and why this has become acceptable. Look at the television and see how people treat one another on these reality shows and how materialistic they are and how arrogant they are. Do these things make someone happy? Absolutely not. That is why they are still so miserable and why they are so unhappy and treat one another the way they do.
Then of course there are the ads for this and for that that tell you that you are nobody unless you have one of these or one of those. Where is our self-image and how did we lose it? Who first told us that we were not as good as we could be unless we did this or did that? What is wrong with you the way that you are and how did this vicious cycle start? I know people that are absolutely beautiful people and every time I turn around they are going in to have some procedure done that is supposed to make them more beautiful than they already are. Why would someone do that to themselves? Why would they think that they are not perfect the way that they are? Who in the hell has the right to tell anyone that they are not good enough the way they are? It is all about being you and not having to cave in and perpetuate the cycle of self-abuse on yourself. Are we afraid that we are going to become disposable to someone and they are going to send us off to a home where we can be tended to by strangers while our children are out romping around with our money and in our cars telling the world that they are absolutely fabulous and thanking their lucky stars that they do not have to deal with you anymore?
Instead of living with that future why don’t you take a step back and look at what is really important and push everything else aside and see the world and your life for what it really is. No one needs all of these things and you sure should not throw out and get rid of anything in your life just because it takes a bit of effort.
Stand up and say I am going to make the change and do what I need to do in order to be more sensitized to the things that I am doing and the affect that I am having on the world. Look at how your excess has turned into someone else’s do without. Not everyone is the same so don’t judge and speculate on why anyone else is not where you are because no one should be where you are. Just because someone is rich and has a possessions, this does not mean that they are better and should be adored by millions. A person should be respected and admired for what they do and who they are when all of that stuff is stripped away. That is where your worth lies. Not what car key your ignition goes into. Certainly not where you live. Living in Beverly Hills does not make you a better person. What you do with what you have been given however does.
My challenge to everyone is to take the blinders off and take a look around and see what this materialistic and disposable view of the world has done to the world and figure out how you are going to change that. I know I have said it before, but no one needs a Mercedes Benz and no one needs a palace for two that is bigger than the high school they went to. The inequality in this world is staggering and very disheartening. Someone’s materialistic life should not be celebrated. Who they are and how they treat others however should be! There is nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with things that make you happy. However, there seems to be a complete and total lack of respect for these things and for what they represent and how ogling over them affects others. How is it right that someone be able to drink from a $20,000 faucet while someone else has to drink from streams that animals have defecated in?
What I am trying to say is go through life motivated by something other than yourself and what you get out of it. It is not about you nor has it ever been about you. It is about everyone and the sooner you realize that the better this world is going to be!!!!!
